It seems today that we’re all being asked, in our own way, to begin again. We attain some height; we attain some level of monetary success; we attain love – only to see it ripped away over and over again.
Those who have not had this experience but watch on the television, as others do, wonder, “Will I be next? Will a catastrophe come my way? The future looks so uncertain.”
This uncertainty is really your gift, because it loosens the hold of the ego in the sense of having control in your world.
With so much talk about the power of thought and the power of mind, people have mistakenly begun to think that, with thought, you can control creation. And so, people, we are right back where we started from in the 60’s – desiring to break the bands of control. But, we are now attempting to be in more control than ever by the illusion that we are in control of our spiritual path.
This belief that, with your mind you can control the outcome of the world, is grandiosity because all of experience is a measure of the mystery. Your thought and your mind, which is powerful indeed, are in a dance with many energies. This dance, called Lela in Sanskrit, when you’re in the flow, is quite beautiful. To be in the flow, one must surrender control, live in wisdom, and choose to find what is precious in our everyday, mundane existence.
Life, in her magnificence, always leads us back into the void of uncertainty. Ultimately, we are always brought back to the beginning point, which is “searching for meaning in a world of chaos.”
But the center of uncertainty, the beginning point, is where you will learn how to pray. And, this is the teaching that uncertainty has to bring. For prayer, is in fact, the greatest movement of thought in creation. Prayer is not a mental state. Prayer is not rational, nor is it shallow. An empty prayer is like a paper airplane. But, a prayer in the depth of trembling uncertainty, that is “I am so uncertain I don’t know where I am. I can’t see clearly. God help me,” this kind of honest prayer, in the depths of your trembling, is a rocket of fire. And, when that rocket of fire is sent into the stratosphere, it pierces through the veils between the worlds – of ours and “All That Is.” Then God hears your prayer and answers with a miracle.
We are here at a time of new beginning. It is a time to rethink everything that you have learned. It is a time to take perception and turn it on its head. For true prayer, honest and humble, in the living perception of a fully present moment, is the gateway to the greatest joy you will ever know. This is when the heart fully knows how to pray.
